In 2019, I experienced my first summer in 19 years without camp.

I had recently retired as camp director for an overnight camp I had founded a decade earlier for people with neuromuscular disorders. Up until that point, my whole life had revolved around camp—my nights and weekends, where and when I took vacations, how often I saw my family—you know the drill.

I realized so much of my identity was tied to camp, it was difficult for me to untangle myself when I decided to leave.

There were so many unexpected thoughts, feelings, and emotions that surfaced in that year without camp—and no handbook to support me in preparing for them. The following year, I co-presented at the Camp Owners & Directors Assoc Convention (CODACON) on preparing yourself and your camp for your (inevitable) departure.

In that session and the interactions that followed, I realized there was a hunger for support within the camp owner and director communities. A need for support I had experienced once and could now fulfill. Combining my passion for personal growth, training experience in and outside of camp, and career as a creative director, Directing Your Life was born.

My solution was to retire from camp life, but I know that’s not everyone’s. Let me support you in finding yours.
